A GroupTogether alternative that charges in Canadian dollars

GroupTogether runs a Canadian version of its site, but when we checked, its Canadian pricing page showed prices in US dollars. Thankeeu charges Canadian cards in CAD, takes gift contributions in CAD, and adds voice notes and video so coworkers can say more than a line of text.

What GroupTogether’s Canadian page shows

GroupTogether’s Canadian pricing page listed a single group card at $5.50, including tax and fees, shown in US dollars when we visited. Packs ran from 5 cards for $25 to 100 for $349, with cards available for 12 months. Each card includes unlimited messages, photos and GIFs, a PDF download, templates or your own design, and email invitations with reminders.

The Canadian page did not list voice or video messages, a keepsake video, or the fees for money collections. Prices shown to you may differ depending on where you visit from, so it is worth checking the page yourself before you decide.

Why Canadian teams pick Thankeeu

Currency first. Thankeeu charges Canadian cards in CAD and the gift pot takes contributions from Canadian coworkers in CAD, with fees shown before anyone pays. For a team in Ottawa or Regina, that means no foreign transaction line on the statement and no mental arithmetic for the people chipping in.

Then the card itself. Every Thankeeu card takes voice notes as well as messages, photos and GIFs. Most Popular adds video and the Memory Movie, a short film with music made from everything the team posted. In a bilingual office, a voice note lets each coworker speak in the language they are most comfortable in.

And credits. GroupTogether’s Canadian page says pack cards are available for 12 months. Thankeeu Pack credits never expire and can be sent to a colleague’s Thankeeu account, which is handy when budgets move between departments at the end of the fiscal year.

Farewells, retirements and holiday thank yous

Going away cards and retirement cards are the ones Canadian teams send most. A retirement after thirty years in a school board or a provincial ministry can draw messages from hundreds of people, and Thankeeu has no limit on signers. See our going away card ideas for Canada and the office group card guide.

Birthdays, baby showers and work anniversaries fill the rest of the calendar, with a spike around Thanksgiving and the December holidays when teams thank a manager, a mentor or a volunteer. For service anniversaries see our work anniversary card page.

Organising across provinces and shifts

Canadian teams are spread across a lot of map. A coworker in St. John’s starts work while the Vancouver office is still asleep, and a hospital unit runs three shifts that rarely overlap. One link lets everyone sign when it suits them, and reminders go automatically to people who opened the link but did not post, so the organiser is not chasing names through the week.

With a Most Popular card, up to five co admins can share the dashboard, change the delivery time and add photos. That helps when the farewell is being planned by two departments, or when the main organiser is going on vacation the week before the card goes out.

Private messages are there for the personal notes. A signer can mark their message private so only the guest of honour sees it, which suits a retirement card that former colleagues and family both sign.

Questions to ask before you pick a group card service

Every team has different priorities, so here are the questions we would ask in your place. What currency will you be charged in, and what will your coworkers be charged when they chip in? Can people say something out loud, or only type? Will the card arrive at a sensible hour for someone three time zones away? Do unused credits disappear after a year? Can a second organiser help if you are away?

If most of your answers point to price alone, a basic card may be enough. If they point to the experience of the person receiving the card, try building one on Thankeeu first. It costs nothing to create a card, invite a couple of coworkers and see how the voice notes and the Memory Movie feel before you pay.

Whatever you choose, start early, give people a nudge halfway through and ask each signer for one real memory. That does more for a card than any feature.

The three ways to buy

You never sign up for a monthly fee. Building the card and gathering every message is free; the one charge, in Canadian dollars, comes when it goes out.

For HR teams in Canada

If your organisation wants birthdays and work anniversaries handled without anyone tracking dates, Thankeeu for Teams imports staff from BambooHR, Rippling, Deel and other HR systems and creates the cards automatically, in a company workspace your coworkers can see. GroupTogether’s Canadian pricing page does not list a plan like that.

Getting your first Canadian card out the door

  1. Choose a cover: Over 500 designs, or upload your own photo, with the coworker’s name on the front.
  2. Share one link: Email, Teams, Slack or a group text. No account needed to sign.
  3. Collect in CAD: Coworkers chip in while they sign, with fees shown first.
  4. Schedule delivery: Pick the minute in the recipient’s own time zone.
